Position: Dean of Students
Location: Murphy, Carroll or Douglas. Travel is required throughout the service area.
Department: Student Affairs
Reports to: VP for Student Affairs
Nature of duties: Under general supervision, performs duties that enhance students’ collegiate experiences through programs and services that promote student growth, character development, and leadership. The Dean of Students will be a student advocate to encourage and support student success at the college. With these goals in mind, this position will communicate student expectations through an enhanced Student Handbook, develop and implement awareness campaigns and programs, and train faculty and staff members on student advocacy, how to appropriately handle reported or witnessed violations of the student code of conduct, and similar topics.
This position will also serve as Lead Judicial Officer for all student discipline at the college. The Dean of Students will serve as Title IX Coordinator for students, will investigate and respond to reports of Unlawful Harassment, discrimination, and other grievances and complaints from or involving students. Duties will further include serving as the student liaison to WGTC’s Behavior Intervention Team. The Dean of Students should have a working knowledge of related legislation, such as the Higher Education Act, Title IX, VAWA/Campus SaVE Act, Clery Act and other pertinent legislation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of related work.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Student Affairs or related field
Experience in handling Title IX cases; Title IX Investigator training from a certified provider
Experience handling student discipline cases and student complaints
Experience organizing and/or participating in discipline hearings
Strong decision making and problem solving skills
Working knowledge of FERPA regulations
Working knowledge of program assessment and strategic planning strategies
Good oral and written communication skills
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public
Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs like Banner Student Database
Working knowledge of data analytics, dashboard metrics, and SQL Developer
 
Salary/Benefits: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Benefits include paid state holidays, vacation, retirement, personal and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program.
