Job Description Summary

This position provides support for the primary institutional research function of capturing, analyzing, and interpreting data on faculty, students, staff and other critical information for institutional leadership decision-making and for other internal and external uses. This position may be called upon to suggest analyses, write documents or sections of documents, present data analyses and track specific projects, provide data uploads or survey support. This position contributes to extending self-service capacities and data visualization options for institutional and project leaders and to developing and documenting shared data practices for consistency. This position will use data to provide analysis for a variety of units across the college. This position is responsible for independently performing responsible and confidential duties and performing non-standardized tasks requiring the employee to formulate production methods, schedules, and priorities. The Sr. Institutional Research Analyst reports to the Dean of Planning, Assessment, Accreditation, and Research.

Key Qualifications

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a master’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field
• Three or more years’ relevant work experience with data/statistical analysis and spreadsheets required
• Three or more years’ experience working with Banner system preferred
• Experience with relational databases, web development, desktop publishing and presentation software, especially in a higher education setting required

Key Responsibilities

• Collects data, conducts data analysis, and provides research support for internal and external institutional data requests using quantitative and statistical procedures; verifies data to ensure accuracy by comparing institutional data against other data sources such as IPEDS and USG’s data warehouse.
• Provides data uploads, survey support, and analytics processes for specific projects, coordinating with other Institutional Research units in the University System of Georgia as needed; contributes to design of shared data elements and practices to promote comparable project outcomes; keeps data activities aligned with project requirements by attending meetings as needed; writes data-related sections of reports as needed
• Assures data needed for operational reporting is appropriately captured, coded, and maintained
• Provides basic end user support for the institution’s data analytics and data gathering systems
• Assists in developing data visuals, survey analysis and statistical analysis
• Assists in the production of the annual Georgia Highlands College Fact Book
• Participates in professional development activities, in campus meetings, and serves on committees as required
• This role is designated by the institution as a Position of Trust
• Performs related duties

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Experience in collecting, editing, verifying, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting data, preferably in a higher education environment
• Analytical skills to develop research that contributes to policy analysis and institutional decision-making
• Knowledge of federal, state, University System of Georgia and Board of Regents, accreditation and institutional policies and procedures
• Knowledge and demonstrated use of database management systems (BANNER)
• Skill utilizing computer software programs and tools important to institutional research, such as data warehouses, presentation software, data modeling software, integrated databases, data mining software, statistical packages (e.g. ACCESS, Excel, SQL, Argos, Cognos, SPSS, R, SAS)
• Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects
• Ability to acquire increasing knowledge of current trends and solutions especially related to data scripting, data reporting, and business analytics
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills and the ability to work as a team member
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
• Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports
