Working Title:            4-H Douglas County AmeriCorps State Member, Part-time
Living Allowance:     $542 Monthly
Availability:                 September 1, 2017 – August 31, 2018
Hour Requirements:             Must log 900 hours of service during 12-month term of service;                                                                         M-F, 8am – 5pm; Some night and weekend hours required.
Additional Benefits:              
  • Segal Education Award equivalent to the Pell Grant ($2,907.50) upon successful completion of term. Award can be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary educational institutions as well as to repay qualified student loans. In order to qualify the member must successfully log 900 service hours during the 12-month term of service.   • Other benefits for qualified or eligible members include: loan forbearance and student loan interest repayment.
About the AmeriCorps State Program:    
The AmeriCorps State program is a federally-funded grant providing U.S. citizens with the opportunity to serve domestically. Funding is provided through the Georgia Commission on Service & Volunteerism (GCSV) and the Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS).

Georgia 4-H has been approved for 1 additional year of funding for AmeriCorps State members. There is a possibility of funding for an additional three years.
 
Primary Duties:        
Under the direction of the County Extension Agent, the AmeriCorps member delivers 4-H positive development programming directly to youth.   
  • Provide direct services that align with the Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps Program objectives: Facilitate 4-H club meetings; Prepare students for 4-H Project Achievement; Attend 4-H Summer Camp; Assist with other 4-H base programming.
  • Assist the County Extension Agent in the day-to-day activities involved with providing direct services to youth, such as planning and development of 4-H programming.
  • Track and document data related to AmeriCorps performance measures and monthly reports, supported by the AmeriCorps State Program Coordinator. This includes administering surveys to youth as well as data entry.
Other Duties:
  • Support and provide leadership to the county 4-H Volunteer program: recruit, screen, train, and engage volunteers. The member may assist with coordinating the county volunteer registration database.
  • Attend local, district, and state program activities and events alongside the County Extension Agent.
  • Participate in required AmeriCorps Trainings: New Service Year Orientation (NSYO) on October 19-20, 2017 (overnight at Rock Eagle), additional face-to-face trainings, and monthly webinars.
  • Performs related service as required, including transportation of youth.
     
    Required:
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license to be considered.
  • Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Exhibit qualities of independent judgement and have a passion for service.
  • Ability to make a good faith commitment for the full service year.
  • Experience delivering youth development and/or educational programs for youth.
  • Graduation from a two year college or vocational/technical school with course emphasis in human relations and/or youth development or other relevant subject matters.
