After School Counselor

Salary Range:$17.50 To 17.50 Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Coordinator, the Afterschool Counselor position will assist in the implementation of activities throughout the duration of the program including arts & crafts, inside & outside games, enrichment and any other activities related to youth development. Assists in the supervision of afterschool participants throughout the duration of all program activities. May be required to assist with other general Parks and Recreation duties assigned. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                        

  • Assist in the implementation of activities throughout the duration of the day including arts & crafts, inside and outside games, enrichment and any other activities related to youth development.
  • Handle complaints from youth, parents, and the public.
  • Encourages/enforces proper conduct of participants.
  • Makes innovative suggestions for programs, problem solving, and inefficiencies. 
  • Adheres to all housekeeping and safety standards and see that these standards are not violated by participants. 
  • Assumes other responsibilities within the scope of the position as assigned by the Program Coordinator. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

Must be 16 years of age

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be familiar with youth programs and activity
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Ability to work with children of all ages.
  • Must adhere to the desired dress code.
  • Maintain a positive attitude while working with youth and participate in age-appropriate activities. 
  • Willingness to take directives from supervisor.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

This position requires certification in CPR and First Aid (city-sponsored). A valid Georgia Driver’s License is preferred. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position involves various physical movements, including lifting, standing, bending, and other actions necessary to support children in both indoor and outdoor games and activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT    

This work is performed both indoors and outdoors, depending on the scheduled activities.
