This position is responsible for selling memberships to prospective non-member businesses by communicating the benefits of the Chamber. Provides detailed information on various programs offered through the Chamber and orients new members to the organization. This position reports directly to the President and CEO.
Job Title: Membership Sales Representative
Wage: Base plus commission
  • 30% commission on new member sales
  • 10% commission on 1st year renewals
  • 5% commission on 2nd year renewals
  • 10% commission on sponsorship sales
Benefits: Group dental and health insurance, paid time off, 401K, monthly mileage reimbursement
Status: This sales position is considered EXEMPT under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Schedule: Office hours are 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. This position has no defined in-office schedule since it is the expectation the individual will be out in the community based on the needs and goals of the job.
Reports to: President and CEO
Position Responsibilities:
  • Prospect, develop, and sell new Chamber memberships
  • Develop membership sales presentation and schedule personal visits for the purpose of recruiting new members
  • Achieve budgeted revenue goals – minimum 10 new members monthly
  • Update Membership database as needed
  • Coordinate with bookkeeper to collect delinquent dues and maintain billing accuracy
  • Provide welcome correspondence and new member information on a timely basis.
  • Actively seek newly opened businesses and follow up appropriately
  • Maintain knowledge of goals, objectives, and services provided by the organization including member benefits, Chamber events, etc.
  • Support and participate in Chamber events and programs to build a network to build retention and  increase non-dues revenue including sales of sponsorships in community guide/map
  • Coordinate cross-selling sponsorships with Membership and Events Coordinator.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationship with members and volunteers.
  • Work with CEO to grow the Chairmans Club Program by upgrading current members or recruiting new members
  • Nurture member renewals and target major accounts as assigned
  • Assist Chamber members in taking full advantage of their membership benefits and programs
  • Coordinate bi-monthly new member orientation to encourage participation and retention in the Chamber
  • Attend regular weekly staff meetings; be a team player
  • Participate in new member ribbon cuttings and networking events.
  • Submit bi-weekly membership report to CEO documenting prospects and sales activity.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • 5-years previous sales experience, preferably in Chamber or related environment
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Strong organization, time management, and multi-tasking skills. Detail oriented
  • Ability to self-motivate to achieve results in areas of responsibility
  • Ability to prospect/cold-call new businesses and to upgrade and sell major accounts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, PPT and Word (experience in using a membership database preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong ability to reason quickly and be able to think outside the box to offer new ideas, concepts, solutions, etc.
  • Capable of maintaining sensitive/confidential information
  • Must be a team player that works well in an adapting environment
  • Must have the ability to foster the values of member relations
  • Exceptional people skills with an outgoing personality
  • Flexible schedule
  • Must have/maintain a dependable vehicle with proof of license and insurance
